⛄ Competing: Our second annual Revolution Gingerbread House Competition took place this week! The teams – The Sparkling Snowflakes, The Peppermint Twists, The Stocking Stuffers, The Sleigh Ride Rebels, and The Jingle Belles – were fierce, and it was a tight race!nglish language tips from our students.

Fieldwork Site Visits
Fieldwork students split into interest groups to perform research in various parts of the city. The real estate group joined developers and investors from Shift Capital and builders and designers from Owner’s Rep on a hard hat tour of the Beurry Building at 3700 N. Broad. The Safe Streets, Beautification and Fashion groups visited Theaster Gates’ Monument in Waiting for an art talk by Philadelphia Contemporary’s Libby Cunha De Vieira, and then they made their way to Grant Blvd., a sustainable and social justice-oriented fashion brand, where Dr. Kimberly McGlonn told the story of its origin and mission to serve and empower previously incarcerated women as fashion designers of their sustainable brand.

Language Exchange
In Spanish class, students have been learning how to ask new people questions to get to know them. We put their learning to the test on Tuesday by taking them to two ESL 1 (the lowest level of English proficiency) classes at Olney High School. While a few of these students speak French and Creole, the vast majority of them are native Spanish speakers who answered our students’ interview questions and helped them to understand and write their responses in Spanish. Most of these students have only been in the U.S. for a few months! After 45 minutes of partner-switching, a couple of OHS students took us on a short tour of their school. We even got to watch some students perform an original rap over a Dominican dembow beat in their auditorium.

Mayoral Candidate Visit
Allan Domb, one of Philadelphia’s most successful Real Estate investors, Philadelphia Councilman and now Mayoral Candidate met with students this week to discuss his background, platform, and challenges and opportunities in our city. In a lightning round, he also revealed his favorite cheesesteak joints (Ask your students for details)!

Visiting Artist
Zarinah Lomax created a pop up art show of her work that tells the personal stories of gun violence in Philadelphia. Through images of the victims and their loved ones, Zarinah shared the stories and her inspired vision for lifting them up as a way to bring attention, awareness, and healing.

Financial Masterclass Guest Lecture From Jeremy Siegel
This week, students had the opportunity to meet and interview featured CNBC panelist, Wharton Professor, and author of Stocks for the Long Run, Jeremy Siegel! Students learned how Jeremy started his career in finance, why he has been continuing to update his work, and how current events impact the market.

Global History through Architecture
World History Through Architecture students took a micro-field trip to our neighbors at St. Mark’s Episcopal church to see a real example of Gothic Revival building style.

Our 11th and 12th graders attended a second College Fair at 440 North Broad Street. The students engaged with admissions officers from twenty small to medium-sized schools all within a two hour drive from Philadelphia. Several students received immediate admission decisions.

Financial Aid

• It is time to complete the FAFSA form for your child at studentaid.gov. Here are basic instructions: FAFSA Guide and a video to assist with the process.

• Tuition Tracker is an interactive tool that shows the relationship between published tuition and the actual costs of attending college. Students can compare colleges based on their household income level to see what students like them have paid in the past.
