Saturday, December 13, 8am–2pm — The Philadelphia Hidden Genius Project hosts Brother’s Code Event. This free experience introduces participating students to coding, tech entrepreneurship, and leadership while connecting them to mentors and opportunities within the technology sector.

Multidisciplinary artist & poet, Nina Riley, shared her poetry and led a workshop for our 9th and 10th grade scholars during Project Lab as part of Syd’s Poetry unit. Students will be presenting their poetry at Barnes & Noble at 1708 Chestnut Street on Tuesday, December 16 at 1:30pm. Please join us!

In Biology, students chose between making 3-D models, writing a creative story, or designing a poster to demonstrate how the organelles within cells work together.

Students volunteered at Books Through Bars, a nonprofit organization which has been sending free books and educational resources to incarcerated people for over 35 years. Volunteers begin by reading letters from incarcerated people in order to select books from their library to match each request — ultimately preparing those packages for mailing. For Wellness, Elizabeth Zack, a certified yoga teacher and seasoned educator, came in for a mindfulness workshop. She led the students through a sound bath, an immersive auditory session designed to promote deep relaxation and mental clarity. Elizabeth uses a variety of instruments such as crystal singing bowls and chimes to create a meditative environment where sound vibrations help to calm the mind, reduce stress, and restore balance to the body.

Everyone has been pitching in to pack boxes and prepare for our transition to the Sixth Man Center — including students! Faculty and staff dedicated half of Monday’s professional development day to packing and prepping for the move, wrapping up with a mental wellness discussion led by Reggie Banks, Founder and CEO of Dunbar Wellness Group.

This new national student conference is by the same founder who led the Student Diversity Leadership Conference (which has been paused). Like SDLC, it’s designed for independent school students, educators, and administrators, centering the voices and well-being of those most often marginalized.
