Half Day for Students (Quarter 1 Faculty report writing) on Friday, October 28th.
ASSET is for Everyone!
We encourage all students to take advantage of After-School support offered on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 3:30-5:00pm. This is a great opportunity to catch up on assignments, especially with only a few weeks left in the first quarter! Seniors can also utilize this time for work on SAT review, college essays and applications. Please encourage your students to join us.
Upcoming! Dia de Los Muertos Cultural Excursion
On Tuesday, November 1, students will celebrate the Dia de Los Muertos holiday with lunch at Cantina La Martina and an art project at the We Love Philly Youth Volunteer Corps recycling center next door. More Details HERE.
To cover the cost of lunch, students should bring in $15 cash to Sydnie by Friday, October 27. If you would like to give your child permission to be dismissed from the recycling center around 3:10pm, please email Sydnie with permission.

Looking Ahead! Upcoming Fieldwork
11/4: Kelly Writers House: We will collaborate with the Kelly Writers House at the University of Pennsylvania to learn skills related to making of Zines. Zines are a combination of literary and art magazines and cultural newspapers, and Kelly Writers House has a Zine library. The workshop will be run by their Zine Librarian. In English class, students have been creating a variety of stories, and their stories and original artwork will be featured in the Zines. Zines will also be a format option for the Fieldwork presentations students will do at the end of each quarter. Fieldwork will happen on Friday (the first week of November) instead of our regularly scheduled Thursday to accommodate the schedules of our workshop leaders.
11/7: Parkway Central Library. As part of their introduction to the Building Philadelphia fieldwork theme, and as an extension of History and Science, students will engage in enrichment on conducting research and learning about resources available to them at the Parkway Central Library.
Upcoming Opportunity Expo: Revolution School community partners working with us in Quarter 2 Fieldwork will join us on October 27 to share the work they do, why and how they do it, and challenges they have that students might engage in learning more about. Next quarter’s Fieldwork theme will be “Building Philadelphia.” Students will choose to engage in group projects related to building/architecture, real estate/finance, or beautification of the city. The focus will be on sustainability and equity in these areas. Professionals from real estate, building, city planning, landscaping, journalism, and architecture will join us and students will have the opportunity to meet and ask questions.
Asking Good Questions Workshop: This week, Report for America journalist Sarah Huffman returned to Revolution School to engage students in crafting questions for next week’s Opportunity Expo.
Design & Ideation Experience: Students engaged in conversations around branding, costumes and how we represent ourselves with Suzie Morris, a costume designer from the Opera. Suzie shared her personal journey in becoming a costume artist, and shared examples of her process from concept to costume. Students engaged from text to visualization of key concepts from across multiple courses, articulating their core values (from Wellness), strengths, and things that bring them joy. We will continue to explore the ways in which students see their school and school experience, which may just end up in a graphic you’ll see soon!
