On a recent fieldwork expedition to the Free Library’s Culinary Institute, students learned about knife safety, then made Patak ak Let, a Haitian dish of sweet potatoes stewed in milk and spices. They also made sweet potato biscuits and oven-roasted sweet potatoes. The staff led a discussion about the metaphor of feeling rooted as we chopped the tubers. Finally, after the three dishes were cooked, we had a feast of all three sweet potato dishes along with yogurt, cheese, roasted broccoli, and green onions.
Ninth grade visited the Kimmel Center this week for a lunchtime concert.
